Looooove this one. Just added an insane amount of history to everything out there. All the mystery behind the magic age that preludes to where Fable began.
I have to ask, while doing this Substack and the goal of eventual print, how much of this incredible history behind it all will show in the actual pages? Is it/will it be hard to remember what was already given "behind the scenes" or will this show up in the physical pages as well? Will it be delivered in another way (for those who never subscribe but buy in print)?
Or is this whole new Substack idea that even with print that to get the FULL story one will need to subscribe at some point? QR code on the final page leading to the Substack? Within the pages and QR code to the post itself?
I love this, bringing physical and digital comics in a beautiful symphony together. Delivering a story that can only be told this way.
Right now, we're throwing around the idea of everything being compendiums. I dunno, maybe? That question is going to get even trickier actually. We'll see. Glad you're having fun. I am!
Sharing my crazy theory that you guys should definitely incorporate in upcoming chapters (totally unique / not copied from anywhere / completely mine -- you can trust me on this):
Those unscanned layers of the Rock have these entombed mummies of these high lords that will zombify Therra in an upcoming episode of "What If 3W3M ... ?"
I knew it!!!! “The Skeletons of Vahl-lar” is real!!! This format is redefining “graphic novel” every step of the way! S/O Gerry Duggan for being in here amongst us! That raises the bar for me. The horror element is such an underlying presence in the foundation of this story that you almost have to do a limited series to tell that origin. The whole “we built this city on a burial ground” vibe is another level. Almost all the big cities in America have done something like that in the real world so I hope you take inspiration from that factual history and weave it in there. This was a nice distraction from an otherwise downer day. Well done!!!!
The three Rock at Vallar data entries are straight fire. Really enjoying this storytelling process slowly unraveling the foundational lore of the universe. Can’t wait to see the comics because I’m starting to see so many seeds being planted for potential story.
ohhh man, A Prison! Love the aspect this brings up has me thinking about "The Rock" (the movie, not the actor), prison break, Shawshank, and the last castle... I need to start forming a timeline with the different dates
So, there's a bunch of practitioners of the Broken Path trapped inside the rock? That's why it sounds like voices are coming from out of the rock. I wonder if that's the real reason for assigning a Judge to watch over the Hyatt-Vallars, to make sure they don't find these followers of the Broken Path? Man, I just thought of something.
The age of magic is about to begin again and those sorcerer's are going to get out.The Institute is definitely going to have a problem! I cannot wait to see where this goes next! Live long and prosper, Mr.Hickman 🖖 and to everybody on the 3W/3M production team.
Well... that seems like an unfortunate place to build your house...
Raising generations of a family in what is shaping up to be a mirror rock of eternity where the wizard is imprisoned is probably not a good idea.
and not just a single wizard.. but several people who followed the "Broken Path".
Quotes from the article:
- "The spell that entombed the great lords of the Broken Path"
- "bind and bury that school’s great lords"
Whoa. Speculation is useless (but still fun!). Too many unknown unknowns.

Wizards and Judges and chanting prison homes, oh my!
This story is getting more and more intriguing with each post can't wait for more!!!

Ok, so I just hopped around on my couch by the seat of my pants. I love the backstory, hot damn!
so, maybe the lineage from the surviving high mages that cast the spell now manage the Council of Khor as a means of pursuing the True Path.

Hmmm, so the family lives in an ancient prison. With ancient magic wielders inside it still. Wonder how they have gone undiscovered for so long?
