Haha yea I figured. Would love to here you talk about your thoughts on his run and how it effected or didn’t effect your writing. And not just that. The writing in general. Maybe just a big q&a with all the creators. 3w3m writers panel or sorts. Thanks again!
Oh man, that would be #1 on my list! You guys are the most consequential living writers of X-Men in my mind (who aren't Grant Morrison, who was already here). Would be a dream!
As for topics, just keep talking about world building in comics. You're the best at it today, and I want to hear what you say.
I'd be interested to see content about what and whom you guys are personally into at any given time. Like films or books that are speaking to you and the reason why, or interviews with creators you're jazzed about. Part of the charm of the Morrison interview was that you *are* such a big fan of theirs, and the enthusiasm and interest is authentic. I imagine you guys interviewing and exposing the audience to artists you're feeling, designers, authors etc. Speaking of design, Jonathan was a little self effacing in the Morrison interview about how the audience wouldn't want to hear him speak on fonts- we absolutely would! At least many of us. Please indulge the fonts, charts and design stuff as much as you'd like, would love an inside look at how you approach that stuff which is clearly near and dear to your heart. Also during that interview you mentioned writing for film or television. I'd be very interested to hear about the difference in writing for comics vs screenplays, perhaps in an interview with another contemporary. The live drawing events are a great idea and sound like a lot of fun.
I think a conversation with Kieron Gillen would be fun. Maybe even play D&D or some other obscure RPG. Outside of the comics world, I've always been curious to know more about your thoughts on architecture or urbanism. Cities and placemaking have played such a prominent role in your work over the last few years. Is it something you think about a lot?
Whoa! I had no idea! Me too! I practiced for about 5 years before moving to architecture journalism and then starting a copywriting agency for architects (and now slaving away on novels and comics at night). Shit, I'd love to talk with you sometime.
I’d love to hear you and Mike talk about the ideas behind Decorum. You guys build a huge world for 8 issues and Mike’s art takes so many fascinating turns to tell the story.
Would love for some or all of the 3W3M crew to get together and chat about a favorite issue that inspires them. Any comic, any era or genre, just a single issue that really stuck to the ribs and became a part of their creative universe
Or anything, doesn't even have to be comics. I remember finding Toni Howard's Spotify playlist for X Of Swords and thinking that was a fascinating look at creative process.
I’d be interested in seeing annotations of a past comic, breaking down what works, what maybe doesn’t, how the language of comics builds into a broader story/theme.
But, as a twist, instead of doing it for one of y’all’s past projects, I think it would be very interesting to see it done to a comic that was influential to you. Break down how you understand someone else’s comic to work and how that influenced your thinking around comics.
Obviously more interviews and keeping up the behind the scenes is great, and more than enough.
I loved the idea of doing the conversations with other creators because it allowed for more depth into other views people have about writing and the climate. I would love to see you and James Tynion IV chat and talk about the current climate of writing. Especially with how its transitioning from Published to Digital.
As far as with this world, I would love to hear more from you guys about the discussions you guys have and how the ideas bounce from each other. See the process blossom in real time and see even the disagreements about things. What inspired you three to sit down and start this project. How does Hickman's writing work with Huddleston's vision artistically? etc.
Love this project tho! Can't wait for the next comic!
Talking with Tynion about all that could be pretty interesting. We don't actually know each other, so it would be nice to chat, and I'm sure we'd have some different perspectives about it all.
So for myself personally I would love to see a live draw with an artist involved or maybe an artist not currently involved with 3w3m. Maybe get Rachel Stott or Daniel Warren Johnson to do a live draw of a character from 3w3m while talking about the process or character or just whatever. honestly I just like listening to y'all talk shop.
Another idea is maybe a breakdown from yourself on how you go about creating a system in the first place or where those idea come from. That's a more difficult request I think so that may not be something you wanna share lol
I'm always interested in the transition from what a writer comes up with and translating that to the artist so maybe a live event where you and let's say RAM V go live and design a system for us to see.
One silly suggestion: maybe play a session of d&d or something and record it, like a once off game. Or if you wanted then adapt a system for 3w3m and tell a story through that. This is definitely a silly idea, I think I just wanted to bring up ttrpg's.
Those will probably all be answered in some form in your next post but in short I'm game for any live content.
Spit balling here just to throw out random ideas. Imagine this….
Your team comes up with 4 basically general story ideas (outline time, place, setting, general mood/vibe/atmosphere).
4 unique ideas- and subscribers vote
Random ideas to make my point:
1.) story about a war between religious super hero factions
2.) coming to age tale involving a young boy and his magic stuffed animal
3.) sci fi space murder thriller based in the year 9,999,999,999
4.) go back to the year -2000 to a life on another planet where society falls and somehow plants seeds on a new world that eventually becomes earth
Winner goes on (vote by subscribers)
Now you have your setting and move to the next vote
Maybe #3 won so now you make a vote for…
1.) superhero theme?
2.) ultra realistic human theme
3.) all female cast
4.)non human life forms are center of story
Pretend 2.) wins…
Now you start letting people give feedback on multiple character sketches 8-10 sketches and bios of different characters and the subscribers vote on which one they want to be the main character (they will all be in story but who will the story revolve around??? The vote decides who takes center stage)
And so on like that in some sort of creative fashion, where in the end, you have a story that has a huge chunk of people rooting for it to be made and they are invested in it
Kind of took your drawing idea with fan feedback and ran with it here
I see lots of great suggestions for interviews with other creatives and I’d bet we are all down for those. I also think it’d be cool to set aside time (could vary in length by week as time permits) to nerd out with you, the Mikes, any casual guest, etc. on any topic - 3W/3M, comics, entertainment, etc. Casual touch points with no set agenda can be just as fun as I bet most of us are just psyched to have access to this awesome team!
Exactly. Just a chance to catch up informally on your work, chat about what we are all reading and watching, etc.
It could be that I am very easy to please but the accessibility that comes with the Substack platform just really drives home the value of the subscription.
I think it would be cool to have a discussion with Al Ewing, Tini Howard, and Ram V on the process of creating religious, magic, and economic systems.
I would be fascinated to hear a conversation between you and Chris Claremont.
Haha. We should probably let that marinate a bit first. I'd be up for it though.

I would sit front row legs crissed crossed hands under my chin.

Love me some Kieron. And I actually went to college for architecture. It's a tell!
Whoa! I had no idea! Me too! I practiced for about 5 years before moving to architecture journalism and then starting a copywriting agency for architects (and now slaving away on novels and comics at night). Shit, I'd love to talk with you sometime.
I’m an Italian architect and also I’d like to know your thoughts and ideas about architecture and urbanism in comics
I’d love to hear you and Mike talk about the ideas behind Decorum. You guys build a huge world for 8 issues and Mike’s art takes so many fascinating turns to tell the story.
Sure. That kind of stuff is inevitable.
Would love for some or all of the 3W3M crew to get together and chat about a favorite issue that inspires them. Any comic, any era or genre, just a single issue that really stuck to the ribs and became a part of their creative universe

All my favorite podcasts are the ones with a great cast that goes off topic regularly

Yeah. That could be fun. That's a good idea.
I think it may have already been mentioned, but I like the idea of a casual hanging out/chatting with subscribers stream.
Would love this! In mean time join the unofficial Discord for chat and Voice Town Hall chats

a live draw would be awesome! please do that!
Definitely this!
A Discussion with Scott Snyder on RPG sources books and how they influenced you both?
Seconding this, esp. bc Scott posted a pick of himself reading Avengers World as he was doing his Justice League stuff
So for myself personally I would love to see a live draw with an artist involved or maybe an artist not currently involved with 3w3m. We're looking very hard at something similar to what you suggested in here. I really, really want to do it.
Hell yeah!
All very solid ideas. The D&D session (or something similar) could be so cool!
Yes of course we would like more interviews. My personal picks:
- Ram V (Pretty please!!!)
- Jeff Lemire
- Al Ewing
- Tom King
- Gail Simone

Just a quick idea without thinking too much..
Gamifying things is a big priority for me. I'm so into stuff like this. Love it!
Gamification ties into interoperable verification of subscribers let’s do it!

Exactly. Just a chance to catch up informally on your work, chat about what we are all reading and watching, etc.
It could be that I am very easy to please but the accessibility that comes with the Substack platform just really drives home the value of the subscription.
Discord has a fantastic voice channel functionality with superb moderation and sound quality
How about a Substack crossover interview with Tynion!
