Hi Wynnesome- this won't be the only community feature we'll be adding, this was just an opportunity to participate in a test for a cool feature we're excited about. The Android version of the app is coming very soon, we've been assured. And we'll pass along the desktop-friendly suggestion, as well.
I definitely hope all the offerings will be available for Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS, with equal accessibility. Ideally in browsers without requiring download of a dedicated application or program. The fewer extra steps, requirements, and limitations, the better, when it comes to checking out all of the great material that's brought us to subscribe.
Hopefully it's an easy point of accord that keeping access and participation simpler and more inclusive will make everyone's experience more exciting and more complete, and support a stronger and more active community here!
I'm an app/web developer and there is zero sense in not releasing an Android app. If nothing else, there are frameworks today that let you develop android and iOS apps using the same codebase. I really want to know who is making these decisions at Substack to exclude a probably significant portion of your user base. Definitely not 3W3M's fault, but what is even going on?
Coming to 3W3M, I'm from India and anyway cannot have access to all the comic-cons and physical meets and all the perks that come the way of annual subscribers. These digital hangouts were the only place I could feel connected to the community. Now that is gone too. I cannot even participate in watch-parties anymore because I cannot afford an iPhone. How does that even make sense? To exclude a whole user-group because they don't use this particular phone? Is this what's in store for Year 2 for "World's Worth Watching" ? Because it's almost like 6 months we've been hearing about android app coming soon, and now all the perks are moving the iOS way.
Thank you for bringing that to my attention. That beta-testing announcement does calm my nerves a lot. Excited again for months to come. Hope I can join you guys on Threads soon for all the weird AMAs I have in my mind lol
I can’t really answer questions about the app (or make you like my terrific pop culture references and compelling hints about new projects!), but I’ve been pretty upfront about the delays in the book printing and the binding process for the hardcover. I’ve done many updates about it over the past few months, so while I understand the frustration (and feel it too as the editor), I don’t think it’s fair to stay we’ve been ‘opaque” about that subject.
At this point, you’ve seen the insides of the book and seen the completed softcover, so it’s all obviously completed editorially. Hardcover book printing at this level just takes longer then we —or the binder—anticipated. That’s that simple, plain truth and we’ve let you guys know along the way.
I 100% understand the anticipation to get the book, but I’m honestly not sure what other info about the HCs you’re looking for (unless you believe I’m just making all that up!).
I’m happy to continue to answer any questions I can about it, though. Here or in 3Q3A.
How about those who work from desktop computers?
If I did do social media from phone, it would also be for Android.
I love to chat/interact/comment, etc, but looks like this feature won't be for me.

Feels very unfair that Android users are kept away from the community.
Tell substack to get on android!
Will do! We'd love to see it.

We promise we would not have participated in this trial if we didn't know an android app was imminent, it's actually in beta testing right now: https://twitter.com/SubstackInc/status/1555232587798437890?s=20&t=BseIaRjcQ1zvOXp3ZidQgw

IMO this is a bit over the top.
