This is some great stuff. I think it’s pretty awesome how I can come here and read awesome stuff then just scroll down to the comments and be part of this community
So I may be being super naive and this is my first substack subscription but am I correct in assuming that I’ll be getting actual access to comics as part of this sub or is it just access to insider/upcoming information.
I’ve paid for founder because I love your work Mr Hickman and am hoping… that I’ve paid to be able to read these comics here as part of the $250?
Very excited and in love with what you have written here already (and super in love with your FF/A/X work so much so I’m indoctrinating my comic obsessed 6 year old nephew with your work!).
We're making comics here. They will be here. We're just starting out at the origin point so you guys can see how everything was made (and maybe affect the end product from time-to-time).
As am someone who spends his days designing user interfaces. I’m super intrigued as to what the comic reading experience will be like via substack?
I’ve mainly converted to digital comics for almost 8+ Years? (Since AVX) and love it (although I did buy hox/pox issues 1&2 in paper format when I was back visiting my hometown of Edinburgh).
And while comiXology has done a good job of the reading experience. The finding, collecting, curating experience is somewhat lacking. Trying to find/track the narrative thread through multiple series is super hard.
I have, uhh, similar concerns. It's certainly cool to see all the developmental process! But it seems like this comic is still quite a ways away from becoming a reality. I definitely want to experience this story (and as a creator, I like to see all the messy background stuff). Is there at least a plan for when subscribers might be able to see some actual story pages?
If I change from $80 to $250 does that make me a founder member or is it too late? Kicking myself for not just pulling the trigger Monday. Oh ye of little faith! Regardless I just keep getting more and more excited with each post. This is going to be amazing. It’s already my favorite thing and to see creators getting to call the shots and not having to worry about previous storylines or a blue print that’s already built upon coupled with the lack of publisher/editor constraints - it’s a recipe for pure awesomeness!
Thanks! Regarding the tiers we're almost ready to talk about all that, but the only time sensitive thing that people are locked into is signing up in the first week. Everything else is flexible. More soon.
Well I didn’t wait for your response I went and changed to founding. I’m all in for the long haul. This is going to be something talked about like Claremont’s run And I’m excited to be here for the inception!
Love the system map! Looking forward to more details about how these planets and moons interact, and what their cycles are like. I imagine travel between worlds needs to be timed to align with the planets being in the same revolution location around the star; is this a common or rare phenomenon for this system? With the planets being so close at times, is it or has it ever been possible for these planets to exchange moons with one another? Looking forward to the possibilities of this world and seeing how the whole thing builds!
One of the things I most enjoyed on your X-men run was the short stories that you included and how it changed the pace of reading comics...Any plans of continuing in that way??
Do the 3 worlds orbit around the sun in a doughnut-shaped ring of breathable atmosphere, created by technology from the same aliens who build on Kaoso, held in place between the gravitational pulls of the sun and the dense asteroid field?
Hearing about Akva made me think of Saturn’s moon Enceladus which has massive water and ice geysers. Maybe the Khor is the source of the geysers, visually capturing that solar flare feeling. The real moon reflects 100% of the light that hits it but that’s because of ice. Might not work for the Goldilocks aspect of the system. Ultimately I am very intrigued and can’t stop thinking about this new universe!
Ooh, I wonder which world buys their 'oil' from which nation on Akva! Also having a hard time thinking of better folks to kick off designs for this stuff, looooove del Mundo's style and Huddleston's work on Decorum is SO good.
This whole thing feels like Hickman & Huddleston were finishing up Decorum and thought, "How can we keep creating more of these crazy alien worlds together? Can we bring in other artists and writers and make it even crazier?!"
Poorly educated guesswork from myself. AKVA reads to me as a world which is potentially man/magic made. A great experiment which resulted in containing or concentrating the element of KHOR.
Khor’s origins could be the membrane of ancient god or the catalyst for the the next cycle. Whilst khor is welded for profit or religious value it’s part in the cycle could seed Akvas presence across the other worlds making them fragile and awaking the fore mentioned archaeological sites on KAOSO.
Apologies if this is wildly of the mark. Just wanted to show how your seeds could be interpreted by a layman like myself.
I'mma be real, Hickman quoting Hickman broke me

Substack haters destroyed by this one simple comment 😅

Boom then I’m all in 😍

Love where your head is at. It will definitely matter. Alignments of the planets, distance when they don't, etc. Good stuff.
This whole thing feels like a rush. A raw experience, watching someone else world build.
"This is the best place. This is the worst place." Made me think of Charles Dickens and Styx hanging out and trading quotations over martinis.
Also reminded me of Gameworld? How much are we allowed to talk about concurrent work? 😂
Haha.

We'll be bold and try all kinds of stuff.
This is really very cool watching this get built before our eyes
Space slugs hey?
How on Therra would they breathe?

Just asking.

A thousand years from now, the cryovolvanos of Enceladus are going to be the Baden Baden of the solar system.

Again beautiful stuff.
Haha. Nice. Glad you're having fun.
So excited to read more about KAOSO! Ancient alien ruins that humans can't reach... thank you!
Exciting! I really like that one of the worlds does not have a moon. Do “humans” live and operate all of these worlds?
I feel like Chris Farley on SNL after each of these. I just wanna comment “You remember that thing we just read? That was awesome right?”.
