This morning I printed all of the 3W3M content out thus far and read it together with my 9yr old daughter. We both loved it, obviously and can’t wait for the first book!!!
Thanks for the update, Mr.Hickman👍. I really can't wait to read the first comic! I don't really have any housekeeping questions to ask you. This is yours and the two Mike's story to tell and I am just along for the ride.
You are the main reason why I signed up for 3W/3M on the first day. Everything and everyone else connected to 3W/3M is a bonus and a surprise. The surprises was the 2nd thing that connected with me in your first email about this story. I want to be surprised!
I check my email everyday now to see if there's a new email from you or the two Mikes. I like that there's no set release date. Just like it was back in the '80s and '90s before solicitations took the fun out of everything. I do have one more thing that I would like to say to you, Mr.Hickman.
For a time, I was disillusioned with Marvel. The mutant population was knocked down to 198 mutants, Peter Parker's marriage was dissolved by the Devil, Mephisto, Hulk lost his unborn child and wife etc etc. Marvel was just really, really heavy to read. And then I heard about the return of Secret Wars in 2015 and that intrigued me because I was curious as to how they were going to make another one.
So I got the free Comic Book Day story and I was hooked. That story blew my mind! It got me back into reading Marvel again. Your Secret Wars is my # 1 favorite story of all time!
I absolutely loved seeing Doctor Doom achieve godhood and get everything he ever wanted! I do think Marvel dropped the ball on one thing though in regards to your Secret Wars story. I don't think they should've made Doctor Doom Iron Man afterwards. I think Doctor Doom should've been put on the shelf for, like, 5 years along with the FF and then they could've done an event story to bring back Doctor Doom.
They could've called it the Return of Doctor Doom or something like that and then use that to bring back the FF also. They could've had Doctor Doom return from the Multiverse, like the FF did, but have him wielding a Multiversal-version of the Infinity Gauntlet. I think that would've been a great way to bring them both back and, yes, I know Doom was in his castle at the end of Secret Wars. But, you know, there are ways that Doom could've still got lost in the Multiverse.
I just feel like you took Doctor Doom to the max in Secret Wars. He achieved godhood! There's no where else to go with him. He had his heart's greatest desires.
So, I just feel Marvel should've given the character a little bit of a breather after Secret Wars. Some downtime on a shelf, like they did to the FF. But Marvel didn't feel that way and he's their character and that's why we ended up with the Infamous Iron Man series. Anyways, I got waaaaaay off track, sorry 🙂.
I just wanted to tell you how much I really loved your Secret Wars story, Mr.Hickman. Live long and prosper🖖.
Honestly, the honor of being the first 100 Founders (along with the tokens & access) is going to be cool for whomever. I want to know if I made that cut but beyond that the idea of inclusion is what will set this model apart. Kudos to opening the invitation to more people.
Yeah, I also do not know if I made it amongst the first 100...I'm still hyped with the idea of Jonathan Hickman, Mike del Mundo and Mike Huddleston responding to messages here that I do not care about other rewards right now
Definitely, a possible private meet & greet or VIP pass for a con where we could get books signed would make it worth it as well. The foundation for this is comic book culture; digital or physical.
that is great you are opening up the video link for new subscribers. I would echo the question about the possibility for a link to the video after the live feed. A sort of archive for the future. Also maybe I missed it, but what platform will the live feed be on? zoom?
I think with any new business model we should allow a level of flexibility. The founder tier will certainly have exclusive rewards down the line but it’s smart practice to allow a taster for the wider audience to build momentum for the project.
I’ve read somewhere that many of the comic creators involved in the big move to substack have been given grants but that is essentially seed money to support artists and start their venture off to the best start possible. By allowing a high level reward available to everyone early one it could be a good incentive to have others raise their tiers which then makes the project more sustainable for the long term and not the first 12-18 months.
Thanks for the reply this definitely gives me another insight into all this. Sounds a bit like what's required here is blind faith, though. I could deal with maybe 50% faith, 50% benefits. We're back to 100% faith now which, you know, is religion.
My two cents: I am into this for the benefits, but to sustain an activity of creators I love, trying to support a modality that cuts as much as possible the middleman, ie the publishing house. Not that I am critical about that model, but I like that we are in supporting directly JH and co. So not about religion, but about supporting directly an activity from people I particularly appreciated in the past. That's enough for me, for the moment and at least for the next year.
All I know is I'm just a simple guy who likes to have some some basic idea of what he's paying for. Some mystery is all well and good but at this point all the benefits here may as well be magic beans. If I was in the US it would be a different story but I don't even know the percentage of stuff I won't be getting because it can't be shipped to me. That, plus the fact it's now clear the rules are going to keep changing around us... I just don't have the energy for it. I'm too cynical for all this magic. I am the bad guys of 3W3M.
Update: Money is always a slightly stressful activity. This has all been sorted by the very lovely team at 3W3M. This little piggy is super excited about the journey again 🙌
I pre-ordered tickets for my wife and I to see Shang-Chi for Sat. 4th at 1pm before this Morrison conversation was announced. I signed up at Founder level but now it sounds like I'll miss this. Super bummed. You and GM are honestly my two favorite writers. Is there any chance we could get a link to the video afterwards? Maybe even password-protected or time-limited so it wouldn't mess with the exclusivity?
When do we find out about whether we’re fire 100/250 etc? I’ll upgrade to founding if I’m not, but don’t want to do the outlay if I made the cut to begin with!
