This is exactly the kind of thing I was hoping to see by subscribing to this Substack.

I LOVE knowing how the sausage is made. I might end up making my own damn sausage.

Absolutely getting every penny's worth of my Founder level subscription. I'm a fan of every member of this team, and every post so far is more entertaining and intriguing than the last. I hope we get process posts from Ram, Tini, Al, and Sasha as well, and I know that Hickman will continue sharing his insights into the development of the story. Loving the journey to date!

Just chiming in to agree with everyone else and say this is great and I look forward to seeing more!

This is exactly what I signed up for in this subscription, really great breakdown that doesn't stain or spoil the previous story of the future of the story. Hammering the why of things just gives us so much more room to have different perspectives once we know all that has been considered. Great stuff (my favorite find is the color disappearing as the father leaves, amazing stuff). Thank you!

As a huge fan of your work Mike, it was awesome to see the whole process start to finish. Thanks for going into detail on everything and the choices behind it. Very interesting!

Beautiful work Mr. Huddleston.

Its interesting how you as an artist can create a sense of being drawn into a story though the use of color and decor. As if I'm standing in the corner of the room observing.

The use of decor to give the reader a intimate sense of the boys personality is a affective tool to further draw in the reader.

I was wondering how you come to a consensus with the writer over the characters personal items in the background?

For example. Would the writer tell you there has to be a certain item or object in the background for story relevance? And how do you decide how much of the readers attention it should grab?

Here's hoping the, what I assume is a stuffed octopus 🐙, has relevance and will show up later in the story 😉.

Don't know why, but I like it. Lol

After reading 001[A] I mentioned the Academy panel being the most striking of the chapter.

I was excited to see it spotlit here. Enlightening to read about the development and how a writer works with the artist to develop a mutual vision. Thanks for pulling the curtain back for us off-worlders.

When I first saw that panel, it reminded me some of the surrealist painter Yves Tanguy and sci-fi panels from the space race days.

Do you have any artists or works that you’re taking inspiration from for this series?

Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to your finale soon for Decorum.

Love this! Gotta say, little nuggets like this are really making this worth it so far! Thanks!

This has always been my favourite things to read -- the process, the small changes that happen along the way, how the script evolves and how the art changes and adopts over various iterations. Such extra goodies have always been why I always grab trades even when the story is something I have already read.

Brings all the happy memories of those rare deluxe editions that contain a few script pages, or even the annotated edition of Watchmen—a whole freaking book of the process and notes (go grab that annotated edition peeps, today!)—BUT at the start of the story or parallel with the story itself, instead of waiting till the collected volumes. And this is so much more than the goodies in collected volumes. Feels really worth every penny being invested here. [We can even have a annotated edition of 3W/3M at the end. What? I want my cut for this idea, now (not kidding, really! Pay me!)]

One small little thing I noticed in the script—The suit needs to acclimate to the body of scientists that go to the magic moon, so that it can bond—explains now why the suit is able to adapt in oxygen-deficient environment to collect the oxygen produced by vein-tree/branches.

(Sorry for spoiling for anyone reading this, but what are you doing here without reading the previous posts -- please go read those first. Now!)

Thank you all for the news, comic, and process work so far! I'm already completely hooked with the concept, number systems, universe-building, and eager to learn more about our Apostate Prince, who it is hard not to suspect is our lost Doctor... Already seeing threads of everything I love about a Hickman story, in the most expansive form yet. And Del Mundo and Huddleston are favorite artists, with art and designs shown so far already looking fantastic. I'm so excited to be along for this ride!

The Church of Singularity toys on the headboard confirm this story takes place inside one of the 5 Solar Imperial Preserves that were adopted into the Solar Empire.

Awesome, awesome stuff. For my two pennies, I actually prefer your two passes at the exploration panel better as they just hint at the cool landscape and ruins, rather than showing the whole vista straight off the bat. Plus you feel a bit more in it with them, rather than the drones-eye-view we ended up with. I also completely missed the draining of colour as the dad prepares to leave. I was actually wondering what was happening there as I was reading it - was the dad dimming the lights? The meaning/effect of a slow draining of colour as the father leaves is possibly a bit undermined by the full-colour large panels (of the vista and the kid watching the sky) that break this up. Perhaps that was just me. Again, awesome stuff. Thanks for sharing!
