WARRIOR loyalists of FAYRII
Speaking broadly, there are two types of Royals that originate on the Monarchworld of FAYRII.
The most known, the most celebrated, and the ones with the most to lose and gain are the aristocrats-in-exile playing dynastic games on HEIR.
But the much larger number of royals -- call them Loyalists -- remain on Fayrii as part of the global network of city-kingdoms whose existence, protection, and prosperity is a longstanding artifact of the goodwill of the Throne.
Some Loyalists -- the most loyal -- act as the protective arm of the Monarch. Leaving behind the soft life of a royal, they are trained from adolescence in combat schools. These Komandoros are warriors through-and-through -- living and dying at the pleasure of the King or Queen.
However, when a cycle ends and a new one begins -- when a King is dead and new one takes his place -- all the Loyalists on Fayrii have to swear fealty to their new liege. For many, it is a formality, the natural passing of power from one Queen to another. But for the Komandoros -- those who live and die with the Throne -- the choices are more severe.
Some -- the greatest and most honored of their number -- are almost always pardoned (or in many cases, begged for favor so as to add legitimacy to a fledgling King or Queen). Most however, are killed in the fighting, or executed after being deemed ‘too dangerous.’
Others -- a small number -- escape FAYRII. Yes, there are Komandoro who travel to HEIR under disguise, or using an alias, to support a new royal in an attempt at getting revenge for their fallen King or Queen, but most flee to other worlds.
On THERRA, these once-royals disappear and re-emerge as normal citizens, remembering their old lives while embracing the normalcy -- and peace -- of their new one.
Others go to AKVA.
The DOGFIGHTERS of AKVA
As war is forbidden to the religions of AKVA -- but great wealth is omnipresent along with it’s eternal demand for blood -- absurd sums of KHOR are paid daily to the mercenaries, bravos and assassins who wage proxy wars for their pious masters.
The greatest of these are the DOGFIGHTERS of AKVA.
Manning their submersible spaceships, these skilled aces fight battles underwater, in air, and in space. Yes, it is bad form to ask where a dogfighter is from -- or even their name -- because none of that is real. Life begins and ends when hand-touches-stick. And if asked if they do it for the money or the thrill, a Dogfighter would laugh in your face.
They are paid like princes, but fall as often as any other pawn. They die for the KHOR, but they live for WAR.
Couple of things:
More tomorrow, of course, but...
Mike, Mike and I also hammered out next week which is going to be pretty amazing. Some heavier art days, your first introductions to characters, and our first comics.
All right, be well.
That warhammer lollypop, which I'm dubbing a lolly hammer, is incredible! Del Mundo elevates anything he draws to amazing levels. I'm hoping the lolly hammer does more then just cracks skulls though. Way too interesting to leave it at that.
“They die for the KHOR, but they live for WAR”
Excellent
