Hey all, apologies but we’re going to have postpone today’s livestream due to some technical issues. But don’t worry- we’ll announce a new date and time Monday. And we’ll have those final [3W/3M/3Y] announcements beforehand, so we’ll have even more to talk about.
Thanks for the understanding and apologies for the short notice. We’ll see you next week!
Hi, so I have a completely unrelated out-of-left-field question for Jonathan, it's no big deal or anything, but I just wondering....
So, I'm reading Aliens vs Avenger, and I'm really enjoying it, but I was wondering if there's a mandate or something to "officially" call the aliens "Xenomorphs" now, as if it were the actual name of the species, like you would call a cat a cat, for instance, instead of it being a scientific classification where "xeno" means “strange” or “alien” and "morph" means “form," which would basically mean that is was meant as a way to refer to an unknown creature.
Like, to me, it was clear that when Lt. Gorman says: "All we know is that there's still no contact with the colony and that a xenomorph may be involved," was just Gorman being a pendantic dick, which is why when Hudson "excuse me, sir... a what?" Hicks clarifies for him that it's just another "bug hunt." This exchange makes it clear that they weren't talking about this specific bug, the Face Hugger/Full grown Alien--especially as the movie later goes on to show that they've never met this particular kind of alien before--but instead, they were refering more generally to the more common situation where they go somewhere and have to act as Pest Control in Space.
I've read there's an actual specific species name now that's canon, but much like anything to do with the actual species name and culture of the creature from Predator, I'm not interested in that stuff, I like them acting as more of an unknown in these stories, so this isn't about the correct or incorrect name for me. Moreson, while it's super nerdy, I admit it, it's the nuance of language of how Xenomorph is presented that I'm asking about, and in AVA, it's presented as if Xenomorph is the ACTUAL name of the creature, like "humans" would be for us, and I was wondering if that was an official direction or what?
Just curious. Thanks in advance for responding.
