Over the next week or so, we’re hosting a series of posts, events, and conversations celebrating all things DUNE, from the books to the art to the films. Join us in honoring one of the greatest worlds ever imagined.
And a reminder- today, Sunday, November 7, at 4pm Eastern, we’ll be watching Villeneuve’s DUNE (2021) as the next installment of our [Worlds Worth Watching] feature. Details here.
In celebration of all things DUNE, here’s a variant cover I did for Dune #4 for Boom Studios.
It was a pleasure working on this. I knew I wanted to do something with the landscape of Arrakis to really get to the bottom of the story so the image of desert was my main focus. When researching images of arid lands, I would see the beauty of the different waves imprinted in the sand and the visuals started to match up with garments of the Fremen, mainly the face coverings. I noticed they were making that same triangular shape as the sand dunes. That was the Eureka moment and from there merging the two just made sense. Just the idea alone got me excited. I’m super grateful that this exist.
Enjoy!

Beautiful work, Mike!
Jesus that looks amazing. I'm really looking forward to your 3W3M covers, if such a thing will exist as we know it.
I really really love your covers for the Si Spurrier X-Men Legion run.
